WEST NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Tuesday December 15, 2015 – The members of the Community Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee (CPRRC) are pleased to announce the arrival of Dr. Fraser Cameron who is a new family physician withiin West Northumberland.

Dr. Cameron was born and raised in Toronto. He completed his undergraduate degree at Queen’s University with a major in Biology and then completed medical school and residency in Family Medicine at Western University.

During his residency, he had several rotations in the smaller communities surrounding London, which he found allowed family doctors to have a broader scope of practice and what he saw as a more fulfilling career. Upon graduation in 2015 with a specialty in Family Medicine, he undertook a locum for Dr. Caldwell in the Cobourg Clinic.

“After experiencing life working in West Northumberland County, my wife and I decided to move to the area to begin a medical practice with Dr. Azzopardi. We are both very excited to be moving to this community and look forward to living and working here and taking advantage of what this beautiful area has to offer,” stated Dr. Cameron.

“I happily welcome Dr. Cameron into our practice and into the community,” said Dr. Mark Azzopardi on behalf of his colleagues at the Ganaraska Family Health Organization. “Fraser will be a great addition to our team and will be an asset to the West Northumberland health care community.”  Dr. Cameron will also be attending to his patients admitted to Northumberland Hills Hospital.

Dr. Cameron will be joining Dr. Azzopardi at his new clinic location at 99 Toronto Road in Port Hope. Dr. Cameron will be accepting new patients and supporting the residents of West Northumberland in accessing primary health care.  If you are a West Northumberland resident without a family doctor and are currently registered on Health Care Connect then please note that Dr. Cameron will be working with Health Care Connect and that you may be contacted through Health Care Connect to meet with Dr. Cameron.

If you are a West Northumberland resident who currently does not have a family doctor in West Northumberland and are not registered with Health Care Connect then please contact Health Care Connect at ontario.ca/healthcareconnect or you can call 1-800-445-1822 to register with this program.  Health Care Connect is a government program that will help people without a regular health care provider find one in their community.

“I'm very pleased to welcome Dr. Cameron to the community on behalf of the Municipality of Port Hope", said Mayor Bob Sanderson. "Good access to healthcare is fundamental to the health and wellbeing of our citizens, and we're proud to support the Community Physician and Retention Committee in their work to retain and attract new family physicians to serve the needs of our community."

The recruitment of Dr. Cameron is another wonderful example of how beneficial the recruitment committee is in its ongoing efforts to bring family physicians to West Northumberland.  “Dr. Cameron’s recruitment is an amazing accomplishment for the west Northumberland Community, and the CPRRC will continue to work diligently to recruit new family physicians in order to keep pace with the needs of our residents,” said Tracy West, Family Physician Recruiter.

Thanks to support from the community and the much needed financial support from all west Northumberland municipalities, the CPRRC is positioned to maintain its recruitment initiatives and recruitment momentum in order to continue attracting family physicians to our area.
