WEST NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Wednesday December 6, 2017 – The members of the Community Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee (CPRRC) wish to announce that Dr. Christine Simon is retiring and local family physician Dr. Damian Wijeyesinghe will be taking over the care of her patients.

Dr. Chris Simon will be retiring effective December 31, 2017 after 34 years of practicing family medicine in Cobourg. Dr. Simon stated that, “It is a difficult decision to retire, but I feel the time is right for my family. My husband is retired and we look forward to spending more time together and more time with our new granddaughter”.

“On behalf of her patients and the community of West Northumberland the CPRRC would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Simon for her outstanding contribution to the health and well-being of her patients.” stated Tracy West, CPRRC Recruitment Co-ordinator.

Dr. Simon added that “I have enjoyed my work and appreciate the trust my patients have place in me.”

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Damian Wijeyesinghe, a Cobourg physician and a colleague of Dr. Simon’s will be taking over the care of Dr. Simon’s patients.  Dr. Wijeyesinghe has provided care to his own patients for over 5 years.  Along with providing care to his patients in the clinic he also provides care at Northumberland Hills Hospital. Dr. Wijeyesinghe is looking forward to providing comprehensive care to all of Dr. Simon’s patients.

Dr. Simon is sad about leaving her patients but is very happy that Dr. Damian Wijeyesinghe is assuming her practice. “I know him to be a competent and caring physician. The fact that we already work together means that he will have immediate access to patient records so there will be a smooth transition in providing care”, stated Dr. Simon.
